Bio – Don Dunlap
Don brings a wide variety of experiences to organizations he works with. Having worked in a variety of positions in the business world, in several industries; he has seen business from many perspectives. With a background in operations, logistics, revenue management, pricing etc in the corporate world; and experience wearing the myriad hats of a small business owner, he can relate to the issues that confront business owners and managers in today’s fast-paced environment.
In addition to his experience in business, he also understands the importance of being engaged in the local community. A member of the Leadership Henry Class of 2010, he has subsequently served on their Board of Directors. He chaired the Board of Directors that brought the first piece of public art to Henry County, the sculpture of Patrick Henry overlooking the square of the county seat in McDonough. Other prior community leadership roles include service as Chairman of the Shining Light Ministries board, President of the Stockbridge Business Association, and Vice-President of Henry Horizons board. The Board of Commissioners Chair appointee to the Henry First county non-profit, he also served with the One Henry Partnership For Success and the Henry Council for Quality Leadership Education (implementing the Leader In Me process in schools in our system). Don served as Chairman of the Youth Leadership Henry and Our World at H.O.P.E. Park School boards of directors; as well as Treasurer for the Henry County Fuller Center for Housing, and served on the Board of Directors of the Henry County Chamber of Commerce for six years. As an organist, on Sunday mornings you will find him on the organ or piano bench at Timberridge Presbyterian Church where, as an ordained Elder, he also preaches in their minister’s absence.
In local recognition for these kinds of efforts in our community, he is a recent recipient of the Community Service Award from the Andrew McBride chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Citizen of the Year award from the Henry County Chamber of Commerce.
Part of his personal mission is education of the next generation. Selling his business in 2003, he began teaching business (and Marketing, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy among others) in the local school system’s alternative school, and also taught Entrepreneurship as an adjunct professor at Southern Crescent Technical College. A life-long learner himself, he also has recently completed his Six Sigma Black Belt certification at Clayton State University, and Paralegal certification through the University of Georgia.
Resigning from these many boards to pursue candidacy for District Three Henry County Commissioner, he subsequently accepted the opportunity to serve as Executive Director of Our World at H.O.P.E. Park, the 501(c)(3) that operates a K-12 special needs school in McDonough along with several initiatives for the local special needs community.
When he’s not trying to save the world, you can usually find Don at home with his amazing wife Cindy. They love cooking, cleaning, hanging out, pretty much everything together; especially being with their two terriers, Gus and Vinny.
Upon graduating from Newton County High School, I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Emory University. Discovering that my calling was actually to become a special education teacher, I obtained my Teaching Certification from the University of Georgia. Later, I obtained my Master’s Degree in Special Education from Walden University.
For the past sixteen years, I have served as a Special Education Teacher for the Newton County School System. Fourteen of those years, I taught in a Moderately Intellectually Disabled Self-Contained classroom. For one of those years, I served as a Special Education CoTeacher in the General Education classroom and, most recently, taught in a Special Education Resource setting. In 2012, I was honored to be chosen by my colleagues as our school’s Teacher of the Year. I was then selected as a Finalist for the Newton County Teacher of the Year.
I am a wife and a mother of three children, ages six, five, and three. I am also blessed to be a special needs parent. In my free time, I enjoy fishing, camping, and spending time with my family.
I look forward to working with the staff, parents, and scholars at Our World School. As a collaborative and cooperative team, I know that our scholars will rise to their fullest potential and beyond.
My name is Jaliyah Butler, born and raised in the vibrant city of Atlanta, Georgia. I am a passionate educator and advocate for students’ growth and development. With a strong educational and psychology background and a deep love for teaching, I have dedicated myself to making a positive impact in the lives of my students.
My journey in education began at Albany State University, where I pursued my passion for teaching and earned my degree in Health Science. During my time at the university, I immersed myself in various programs and gained valuable experience in classroom settings. This allowed me to cultivate my teaching skills and develop a deep understanding of the educational world.
Throughout my academic journey, my unwavering commitment to my students has always been at the forefront of my work. I firmly believe that education is the key to unlocking a world of opportunities for young minds. I strive to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where my students can thrive and grow both academically and personally.
Beyond my role as an educator, I am also a proud dog mom to Millie, a lovable companion who brings joy and warmth to my life. With Millie by my side, I understand the importance of compassion, empathy, and companionship. These qualities resonate deeply in my teaching philosophy and are fundamental to my approach in creating a supportive classroom community. My greatest joy comes from witnessing the growth of my students. As an advocate for education, I firmly believe that every child has the potential to succeed and deserves a chance to thrive. I provide my students with the tools, knowledge, and guidance they need to reach their full potential. I strive to create engaging and interactive lessons that foster curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love for learning. I believe that my dedication to my students and my unwavering commitment to their growth exemplifies me as a true vessel in education. I understand that education is not just about imparting knowledge, but also about instilling values, fostering growth, and empowering future generations. I'd like to think my passion, empathy, and determination makes me an exceptional educator, inspiring my students to dream big and reach for the stars.
My name is Aleia Durah I have been in Georgia for about three years. My family is originally from Pennsylvania, but I was born in Puerto Rico. I have a beautiful, smart, and energetic five-year-old, who is my world. My passion is to create lasting moments in the lives of others. I graduated from Youngstown State University in 2019 with a degree in hospitality. After graduation I landed a wonderful job at the Double Tree by Hilton as the Supervisory Inspector. I worked with all types of people but noticed work felt like a task. My daughter was in daycare at the time, and I would visit to volunteer and help often. I quickly realized, that being the catalyst for children’s learning was my heart and was important now more than ever. In a world of forgettable educators, the people that made the biggest impact on me were the ones that I learned the most from. Sometimes you must go with your gut, so I decided to combine my passion of hospitality and my heart for children. I am a Paraprofessional and when I walk into a classroom, I make it my priority to elevate the room with positivity and joy. Here at Our World School, I triple as the Thursday Art Teacher and the After School Coordinator. It’s incredibly fulfilling to work with such amazing minds, and I value leading the next great generation to success.

My name is Darnelle Felix, and I am a Special Education teacher, for the Middle Grades, at Our World School. I am a native of Brooklyn, NY. However, I spent my formative years in Orlando, FL, before returning to NY and graduating from CUNY-John Jay College of Criminal Justice. After which, I earned an alternative teaching certificate, for Special Education, ESOL, and the general curriculum for grades 4-8 in Houston, TX. My 16 years in education has been filled with many teachable moments and every year has been an investment into my character and “teacher toolbox.” To date, I have been honored to teach in various platforms of education to include, public, private and charter. As a special education teacher, I have had the opportunity to hold my students to the same standard; that is, “all students have value and all students can learn, but they must choose to, or at least be open to it, regardless of their disability.” On a professional level, I am my students’ biggest advocate, motivator, cheerleader, and I will stop at nothing to see them progress and succeed. I strongly believe that growth is eminent, so I aspire to learn something new every day. Aside from being a teacher, I am first and foremost the mother of two beautiful girls. When I am not working, we enjoy road trips, going to the zoo, cooking a nice meal, visiting new and favorite restaurants, going to the park and staying in to “Netflix and chill.” When I am not in “mommy mode,” I enjoy spending time with close family and friends, going shopping, going on long walks, and researching (almost always anything new I can try in my classroom).
